We are not a franchse

One of the things people often tell us when they first discover Jump Start Maths is that they assumed we were a franchise.

The branding feels consistent. The classes feel well structured. The sessions are carefully planned and refined. From the outside, it can look like there’s a bigger organisation behind it all.

But Jump Start Maths isn’t a franchise, and that often surprises people.

Why It Looks Like a Franchise

We understand why the assumption is made.

Our early years maths classes follow a clear structure, with familiar routines that help young children feel confident and settled. Activities are thoughtfully sequenced, and sessions feel consistent from week to week. Our resources, branding and website all work together as a whole.

That level of consistency is often associated with franchises.

In reality, it comes from something else entirely: lived experience, professional expertise, and a huge amount of work done behind the scenes.

Built by Mums, Not a Head Office

Jump Start Maths was created by two teacher friends who have known each other for over 20 years, and who are now both mums to young children.

Like many of the families who attend our classes, we spend our weeks juggling work, childcare, playdates and everyday life. We know what it feels like to search for high-quality classes that genuinely support children’s learning and feel enjoyable to attend.

Jump Start Maths wasn’t built in a boardroom. It was built through conversations between friends, often over playdates, between nap times and nappy changes, shaped by our experiences as teachers and parents.

There’s no head office and no central programme. Everything has been created collaboratively, with care and intention.

Everything Is Created In-House

Another reason people often assume Jump Start Maths is a franchise is because of how cohesive it feels.

But every part of what we do has been created in-house:

  • All lesson plans and session structures

  • Every maths activity used in class

  • Our resources and hands-on maths kits

  • Parent guidance and supporting materials

  • Our website, branding and printed content

Nothing has been licensed or bought in. Each element has been designed, tested and refined through real classes, with real children, in real local venues.

Yorkshire-Based and Community-Led

Jump Start Maths is proudly Yorkshire-based, rooted in local communities and venues.

We work closely with families, childminders and early years settings across the area, and much of our growth has come through word of mouth. Reviews, recommendations and local support have played a huge role in shaping what Jump Start Maths is today.

If you’ve ever shared our classes with a friend, recommended us to a childminder, or left a review, thank you. You’ve helped us grow.

Growing Carefully, One Step at a Time

In January, we reached an exciting milestone by launching our third day of weekly classes.

It’s a step we’re incredibly proud of, and one that reflects the steady, thoughtful way we’re growing. As we look ahead to 2026, we hope to continue expanding carefully, reaching more local families while staying true to what makes Jump Start Maths special.

You can find more information about our current classes, local venues and upcoming sessions on our booking page.
