A New Class for Toddlers: Introducing Jump Start Maths Minis
If you’ve been to a Jump Start Maths class before, you’ll know we’re big believers in learning through movement, play and confidence-building experiences.
Over the past year, more and more parents have asked us the same question:
“Do you do toddler classes?”
So, we’re excited to share that we’re piloting something new.
Jump Start Maths Minis — a class designed specifically for toddlers.
What is Jump Start Maths Minis?
Jump Start Maths Minis is a 35-minute parent-and-toddler class for children aged 12–30 months who are confident walkers.
It’s designed as a clear next step between baby groups and our preschool maths classes, giving toddlers the chance to explore early maths ideas in a way that suits their stage of development.
Sessions use:
Movement and active play
Sensory activities
Short stories and familiar songs
Simple, repeated maths language
Parents stay with their child throughout the session.
What does “maths” look like for toddlers?
At this age, maths doesn’t look like counting to ten or sitting on a carpet.
Instead, toddlers learn maths through:
hearing language like in, on, under, up
noticing shapes as they move and play
experiencing ideas such as more, again and one more
exploring objects by filling, emptying, hiding and revealing
These experiences build the foundations children will later use for counting, number and problem-solving.
What happens in a Minis session?
Each Minis class follows a predictable routine, helping toddlers feel secure and confident.
A typical session includes:
A short welcome song
A simple story linked to the weekly theme
Movement-based activities using mats, tunnels and balance equipment
Sensory play with carefully chosen resources
A familiar goodbye song to finish
There is no expectation for toddlers to sit still, copy an adult or complete activities in a certain way. Watching, wandering, joining in later or dipping in and out are all part of learning at this stage.

Are confident walkers
Enjoy exploring and moving
Are curious about the world
Are too old for baby groups but not ready for preschool classes
Every child develops differently, and parents know their child best. Minis is designed to support a wide range of personalities, from cautious observers to busy movers.
Why we’re starting with a pilot
We’re launching Jump Start Maths Minis as a pilot while we explore the best structure for our youngest learners.

Keep class sizes small
Gather feedback from families
Fine-tune the content and pacing
Make sure the class genuinely meets toddlers’ needs
